The conference will take place at the Exhibition and Congress Centre (Palacio de Exhibiciones y Congresos, PEC), a striking contemporary landmark designed by architect Santiago Calatrava. This spectacular 15,640 m² white structure of concrete, steel, and glass is shaped like a shell, featuring the architect’s signature giant ribs and a glazed access façade.
Inside, the lobby offers 2,750 m² of open-plan space with high ceilings, ideal for sponsor stands and poster sessions. Embedded electrical panels are installed every two metres across the floor, and the venue is well suited for catering, supported by an on-site service kitchen.
At the rear of the lobby is the “Sala de Cristal” (Glass Room), a 300-seat tiered auditorium equipped with audiovisual facilities. The room takes its name from its distinctive curved, panelled glass wall, which can be opened or closed. Adjustable curtains allow lighting and acoustics to be tailored to different event needs.
The Main Hall, where the lectures will take place, is accessed from either side of the lobby and offers ample capacity for BIOTRANS participants. It is equipped with a large high-resolution LED screen to ensure clear visibility throughout the auditorium.
Located within walking distance of Oviedo’s city centre, the PEC combines iconic modern architecture with excellent infrastructure for international conferences.
